In March 2012, the Development Zone Branch of the Nangang City Public Security Bureau received a report from the public indicating that criminal activities were taking place in a residential home within their jurisdiction. As the criminals prepared to flee, Han Bo tightly grasped the corner of one criminal's clothing. The assailant brandished a dagger and fiercely stabbed at him. By the time reinforcements arrived at the scene, Han Bo had already collapsed in a pool of blood. Public security officers Han Bo and Chen Wenguang were on their way to enforce the law when they were violently ambushed by members of a criminal gang wielding clubs, bricks, and daggers. The two men faced the danger without fear and engaged in a life-and-death struggle with the assailants. During this time, Han Bo, who had suffered severe head injuries, managed to use his radio to request reinforcements from the branch. The criminals were severely punished by the law, but Han Bo tragically succumbed to his injuries at 2:17 PM on March 12. The 98-year-old local calligrapher, Mr. Shen, wept as he wrote in tribute to the hero: "With unwavering courage to punish the wicked, the blood of the brave forges the spirit of the police."
